Hyperscale storage with vNAS

Compuverde is built to scale and it scales linearly. Each node consists of the same setup, and therefore Compuverde is completely scaleable with no single point of failure. You can start with only a few nodes and a handful of drives. When needed, it's possible to grow to hundreds of nodes, with Exabytes of storage, giving you much better control over your investments and expansion in your data center.

Handling the scale-out storage problem: Compuverde does away with performance bottlenecks and stores metadata in the cluster instead of in the gateways.

The result? Clean, efficient and linear scaling up to exabytes of data.

  • Single file system spanning over all servers
  • Flash support for high performance
  • Flexible scale-out by adding nodes
  • One unified storage (SMB 1/2/3, NFS 3/4/4.1, iSCSI, OpenStack Swift/Cinder, Amazon S3)

The illustration shows the support of multiple protocols and integrated cache, and how one name space spans over multiple nodes in vNAS.

vNAS offers multiple entry points and removes potential performance bottlenecks. Metadata needed by the gateways to form structured storage (SMB 1/2/3, NFS 3/4/4.1) within an unstructured cluster is stored within the storage cluster rather than in the gateways as many competitors do.

There are a lot of advantages to store metadata in the cluster instead of in the gateways. Scalability is the most obvious one since it's a basic function of a vNAS solution. Metadata is also very sensitive information and needs to be protected from data loss. We storing and handle metadata using the same algorithms as normal files. This creates a more robust and less complex architecture, for both software and hardware.

Furthermore, using vNAS from Compuverde allows for a single file system spanning over both multiple gateways and multiple object store clusters – opening up for exabytes of data with scalability to many trillion files. And with support for systems with integrated cache as well as integration through SMB, NFS, ISCSI as well as Amazon S3 and OpenStack, your vNAS file system setup is well beyond ready.
